Kim McCallum

Kim McCallum was appointed by the Chesapeake City Council to the College Board in 2020. She serves on the Curriculum and Student Development Committee.

Ms. McCallum is a 30 year public educator who has taught in New York, Arizona, North Carolina, and Virginia. She holds a B.S in English from the State University of New York and and M.S. Ed in Secondary Education from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.

Past and present affiliations include the American Association of University Women, Urban League, Phi Delta Kappa, Virginia Education Association, NAACP, and the Civic League of Georgetown. In the Virginia Education Association, while serving on the Executive Council of the Education Association of Alexandria, she proudly petitioned the City Council to maintain small class size, to receive better health care benefits for educators, and to not only increase the salaries of paraprofessionals, but to provide better benefit packages. She has enjoyed training paraprofessionals and educators on best political practices to advocate for public education.

On the collegiate level, she has taught classes at the State University of New York and edited a newsletter for the Center for Alternate Dispute Resolution at Bowie State University.

Tidewater Community College

Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) serves South Hampton Roads with campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce development services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 34,000 students annually—the second largest undergraduate student body in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is the 11th largest public two-year community college in the entire nation.
