Zach Owyang has extensive experience in the medical device industry. Zach began their career in 1989 as the Production Manager/Industrial Engineer at Target Therapeutics. In this role, they supervised production and facilities departments, instituted JIT, KANBAN, SPC, and cross training programs, and assured ISO and GMP compliance. Zach also served as the project manager for a $650,000 tenant improvement project. In 1994, Zach moved to Eclipse Surgical as the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Zach then moved to RITA Medical Systems in 1999, where they held the same role. In 2000, they became the Operations Manager at Neomend. In 2003, Zach joined Transvivo, Inc. as the Quality Assurance Manager. In this role, they corrected the company's QA systems to comply with QSR, created design control policies, aided with PMA submission, coordinated biocompatibility studies, and validated gamma sterilization of product. In 2004, Zach joined AngioScore as the Sr. Manufacturing Manager. In this role, they lead manufacturing and material activities from start-up to commercialization and scaled volume from 100 per month to 1000 per month capacity. In 2006, Zach moved to TriReme as the Sr. Manufacturing Manager. In this role, they managed the manufacturing and shipping department for the US plant, lead expansion from start up to $13 million annual sales, established and qualified all component and supply vendors, established SOP and MRP system for production, materials, and inspection, qualified cleanroom (ISO Class 7), and validated EO sterilization cycle. Most recently, Zach joined Tierra Biosciences in 2021 as the Senior Director (Head) Manufacturing.
Zach Owyang earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1985. Zach then went on to receive a Master of Business Administration - MBA in Management Science from California State University - East Bay between 1992 and 1994.
