Kari Varkila

Kari Varkila has extensive experience in medical research and development. He started his career as a scientist and an immunologist in the academic setting and then held various leadership positions in pharmaceutical industry R&D, including Orion Pharma and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). He has also worked in private healthcare and insurance businesses. Moreover, he has been active in healthcare restructuring, pharmaceutical and vaccine development. Kari is a certified Board Member and serves on several supervisory boards. He is enthusiastic about innovation ecosystems and a strong believer in start-up culture as a building block of future economies. Kari holds an MD and a PhD from the University of Helsinki and an MBA from IMD/University of Lausanne. As the CMO at TILT, Kari applies his translational expertise for clinical trial design as well as for the clinical development and regulatory strategy. In his leisure time Kari is a keen orienteerer, photographer, and a mindfulnesscoach.
