James Roberts has a diverse work experience across different finance roles. James started their career at PwC as a Manager, specializing in audits for insurance, banking, and investment fund sectors. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, they moved on to Cooper Gay, where they served as a Group Financial Analyst and Financial Controller, focusing on management information and investment appraisal. James then joined Jelf Group plc as the Finance and Operations Director of Jelf Financial Planning, responsible for establishing the finance function and overseeing financial control and management.

James then transitioned to Horatio Investments as the Finance and Investment Director, where they provided funding to start-up and early-stage businesses, performing due diligence, forecasting, deal structuring, and negotiation. James later joined Catalyst Finance as the Finance Director, with oversight in finance, operations, IT, and HR, focusing on strategic financial oversight, cash-flow management, profit improvement, financial reporting, budgeting, fundraising, and bank negotiation. Currently, James is the Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of Time Finance plc, an AIM-listed non-bank alternative finance provider. In this role, they hold overall responsibility for compliance, IT, HR, marketing, and finance functions.

James Roberts attended Bristol Grammar School from 1989 to 1996. After completing their secondary education, they enrolled at the University of Durham, Collingwood College, where they studied History and Economics from 1996 to 2000. Following their undergraduate studies, James pursued a Chartered Accountancy qualification through the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) from 2000 to 2003.
