Roger Gaines has had a long and varied career in the military. Roger began their career in 1998 as a Signal Officer and Tactical Trainer at the Jungle Operations Training Center in Fort Sherman, Panama. In 1999, they became an Operations and Plans Officer at the Warrior Preparation Center. In 2001, they were promoted to Assistant Chief of Staff, G6 of a forward-deployed Headquarters, 3D Corps Support Command in Germany. In 2003, they were a Brigade Combat Team S-6 for the 1st Armored Division in Germany. In 2005, they were promoted to Operations Officer for the 141st Signal Bn, 1st Armored Division. In 2006, they became the Deputy G-6 for the 1st Armored Division in Germany. In 2007, they were a Signal Officer, Deputy Director (G-6) for the 32d AAMDC, U.S. Army. From 2009 to 2012, they were a Deputy Division Manager and Project Manager for Science Applications International Corporation. In 2012, they retired and settled down to write books. Since 2015, they have been a Manager Database Administration for TogetherWeServed.com.

Roger Gaines has a diverse education history, beginning with a degree in Admin of Justice from Portland State University, obtained in 1986-1988. Roger then attended the Signal Officer Basic Course in 1990, followed by the Communication Security (COMSEC) Custodian Course in 1991. In 1992, they attended the Tactical Communications Course, and in 1994, the Signal Officer Advance Course. In 1999, they attended the Joint Task Force Systems Course for Network Design. In 2001, they attended the Network Planners Course for Simulations, as well as the USAREUR CPAC Hanau for both the LN Supervisor Development Course and US Supervisor Development Course. Finally, in 2004, they attended USAREUR CND Level I/II and OU admin Courses for Information Assurance. In 2011, they obtained a Certified Knowledge Manager certification from the Knowledge Management Institute.
