James Newsome

James Newsome is an experienced developer and engineer with a diverse background in software development, research, and leadership. Since January 2020, James has been working as a Developer at The Tor Project. Prior to this role, James served as a Staff Software Engineer at Google from November 2013 to January 2020, focusing on data processing and transitioning complex pipelines to streaming. As the VP of Engineering at AppCertain from November 2012 to October 2013, James led backend development for Mobile Device Management solutions for iOS devices. Earlier experience includes research roles at Carnegie Mellon University, where James contributed to virtualization and trusted computing, and at Bosch, where James consulted on cryptography and secure systems design. James holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a BSE in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan.
