Peter Yuen

Deputy Chief, Priority Response Command at Toronto Police Service

Peter Yuen has been a police officer with the Toronto Police Service since 1987. He is presently the Deputy Chief in charge of the Priority Response Command where he oversees all front-line operations, Criminal Investigative Bureaus, the Service’s Operations Centre, Communication Services, and Court Services. Prior to this assignment as the Deputy Chief, Peter served as the Staff Superintendent of Corporate Risk Management, including Professional Standards and the Toronto Police College.

Deputy Yuen has acquired an extensive variety of professional experiences over the course of his policing career including: uniform patrol, undercover work, criminal investigation, community response, Asian Organized Crime, Homicide Squad, Human Resources, Duty Operations and Professional Standards. He has been recognized as an Asian Organized Crime expert by the Courts of Ontario and has spoken both locally and internationally on the topic, including addressing the Justice Committee in Ottawa, the International Council for Refugees and the National Organized Crime Committee. In recent years, Deputy Yuen has been active with speaking engagements addressing stakeholder groups, private sector companies, and public sector agencies sharing his experiences on diversity, management and social issues.

Deputy Yuen serves as the Senior Advisor to both the East and South Asian Internal Support Networks.

He is an active member of numerous charitable and community boards, the co-chair of the Chief’s Disability Committee, and the project sponsor of the Toronto Police Civilian Policing Academy.

Deputy Chief Yuen is a regular lecturer at the Toronto Police College, where he designed the leadership curriculum. He lectures new recruits, new supervisors and senior management on leadership, change management, mentoring and customer service.

Deputy Chief Yuen was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in 1975, he is proud of his Chinese heritage and his Canadian citizenship. He has a Bachelor of Applied Arts Degree in Justice Studies from the University of Guelph, also a Master of Arts degree in Leadership from the University of Guelph.
