Cassie Schumacher-Georgopoulos

Community Projects Director at Town of Cary

Cassie Schumacher-Georgopoulos has a strong background in community development and planning. Cassie began their career as a City Planner at Northwest Associated Consultants - NAC in 2005, where they worked until 2008. Cassie then joined the City of Raleigh as a Planner II in the Parks and Recreation Department, a position they held until 2013. During their time with the City of Raleigh, Cassie also served as a Senior Planner in the Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department from 2013 to 2017. In 2013, they also started working at North Carolina State University as a Lecturer/Professor in the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management department, a role they held until 2015. Most recently, Cassie has been working for the Town of Cary, where they started as a Development Liaison in 2017. Cassie then became an Assistant Development Director in 2018, and currently holds the position of Community Projects Director.

Cassie Schumacher-Georgopoulos has a diverse education history. Cassie began their studies in 1999 at Iowa State University, where they pursued Landscape Architecture. Cassie continued their education at the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Design in 2003. Following this, Cassie pursued a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Minnesota, which they completed in 2005. In the same period, from 2004 to 2006, they also engaged in Urban and Regional Planning Graduate Coursework at the University of Minnesota.

More recently, in 2020 and 2021, Cassie attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they focused on County and Municipal Government studies within the School of Government. Although degree names are not provided for their studies at the University of Minnesota and the University of North Carolina, their experience and coursework indicate significant expertise in landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, environmental design, and county and municipal government.
