Heather Hennessey Whelehan has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Heather Hennessey has worked at the Town of Cary since 2020, starting as a Planner/ Planning Tech and progressing to the roles of Senior Housing Planner, Principal Planner, and currently the Director of Housing and Community Partnerships. Prior to their current role, Heather worked at MHP (Massachusetts Housing Partnership) from 1997 to 2005, where they held various positions including Loan Portfolio Escrow Assistant, Soft Second Loan Program Manager, and Homeownership Director.

Heather Hennessey Whelehan completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Public Administration at Miami University, between 1993 and 1997. Later, they pursued a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a focus on Urban Planning & Community Development at Northeastern University from 2000 to 2003.
