Deputy Fire Chief at Town of Leland

Buddy Brooks has extensive experience in the fire and emergency services field. Buddy currently serves as the Deputy Fire Chief at the Town of Leland since March 2022. Prior to that, they were a Fire Captain at the same organization from August 2020 to March 2022.

Buddy also worked as a Fire Lieutenant/Relief Battalion Chief at Pender EMS & Fire from January 2018 to August 2020. During this time, they held the position of Company officer/relief Battalion Chief and led the Special Operations Team. Buddy was also involved in various committees related to equipment and apparatus.

Before that, Buddy worked as a part-time Firefighter/EMT at the CALABASH FIRE DEPARTMENT from June 2017 to August 2020.

Buddy gained experience as a Fire Engineer at the Wilmington International Airport (ILM) from April 2016 to May 2017.

Buddy has also worked outside the fire service as a General Manager/Personal Trainer at Fit4Life Health and Fitness from March 2016 to March 2017 and as a Certified Personal Trainer at Anytime Fitness from February 2012 to March 2016.

Buddy'scareer in the fire service began with the Hopkins Fire Department in January 2012, where they worked as a Firefighter/EMT until April 2016.

Buddy started their firefighting journey at the Wake Forest Fire Department in April 2009 and served as a Firefighter/EMT. Buddy worked their way up from a junior firefighter to a full-time firefighter and held the position of Chairperson on the Safety and Wellness committee.

Buddy Brooks, the CFO, MO, FO, and GIFireE, has a comprehensive education history. Starting in 2013, they attended Columbia Southern University and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, specializing in Fire Services Administration. Buddy continued their education at the same university from 2019 to 2021, earning a second degree, a Bachelor's degree in Fire Services Administration. In 2021, Buddy Brooks enrolled at Waldorf University and is expected to complete a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership by 2023.

In addition to their academic achievements, Buddy Brooks has pursued various certifications. Buddy obtained the Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence in September 2020 and later earned the Chief Fire Officer Designation from the same institution in October 2022. Buddy further enhanced their knowledge and skills by completing the All Hazards Incident Management Team (O-305) program offered by FEMA in June 2022.

Buddy Brooks also acquired certifications related to fire investigations and safety. Buddy obtained the Fire Investigation Technician (FIT) certification from NC OSFM in May 2022 and became an Incident Safety Officer - Fire Suppression (ISO) through the Fire Department Safety Officers Association in July 2021. Additionally, they earned the Health and Safety Officer (HSO) certification from the same association in April 2021.

Buddy'scommitment to professional development is evident through their participation in programs and courses from reputable institutions. Buddy Brooks completed the Leadership Principles program at Harvard Business School in January 2022 and the QPR Gatekeeper Certificate at the QPR Institute in June 2021. Buddy also engaged in FEMA's NFA Department Wellness Program and Health and Safety Program Manager courses in June 2021. Furthermore, they gained expertise in accreditation and quality improvement by obtaining the Quality Improvement Through Accreditation certification from the Center for Public Safety Excellence in March 2021.

Buddy Brooks has pursued certifications and training beyond the fire service field as well. Buddy holds the OSHA 30 Hour Outreach - General Industry certification from 360 Training Center since January 2021. Buddy broadened their knowledge in tactical conditioning coaching with the Certified Tactical Conditioning Coach certification issued by the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) in December 2020. Additionally, they completed the Chief 101 course offered by NC OSFM in December 2020 to further enhance their leadership skills.

In November 2021, Buddy Brooks achieved the Graduate Grade (GIFireE) certification from the Institute of Fire Engineers and Professionals. Buddy also obtained the Peer Assessor certification from the Center for Public Safety Excellence in the same month. Moreover, they are certified as a Probationary Level II Fire Inspector by the NC DOI since January 2021.
