Traction Drive LLC is a small engineering company working to bring multi-roller traction drive technology to modern electric drive units.
The idea is straightforward: replace the helical gear reducer in a high-speed EV drivetrain with a compact roller cluster that transmits torque through rolling contact — no gear teeth, no gear noise. The underlying science was validated by NASA in the 1970s and 80s. We think the timing is finally right to build it for EVs.
Led by Joe Kliewer, a transmission and traction drive engineer with 20+ years in rolling element contact design and 11 issued U.S. patents.
