Marek Rei

Marek Rei has a diverse work experience spanning over 14 years. Marek is currently a Lecturer in Machine Learning at Imperial College London, where they focus on representation learning and transfer learning for natural language understanding in educational and medical applications. Among their responsibilities are supervising Master's and PhD students and teaching a course on Introduction to Machine Learning.

Before joining Imperial College London, Marek worked at the University of Cambridge in various roles. As a Visiting Researcher, they researched neural machine learning algorithms for error detection, error correction, exercise creation, and language proficiency scoring. Marek also collaborated on the Automated Language Teaching and Assessment (ALTA) project.

Marek was also a Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, where they focused on machine learning models, advanced neural network architectures, sequence labeling, language modeling, and multimodal frameworks. As part of the ALTA project, they supervised MPhil and undergraduate students and taught as part of the MPhil course on Advanced Computer Science.

Additionally, Marek was a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, where they developed machine learning solutions for evaluating, analyzing, and correcting the writing skills of language learners. Their work led to various publications and the creation of a practical tool called Write & Improve.

In 2016, Marek became a Scientific Advisor and Co-founder at Transformative, and in 2012, they worked as a Language Research Engineer at SwiftKey, focusing on natural language processing techniques and machine learning tasks.

Marek's earlier experience includes working as a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, where their research focused on minimally supervised dependency-based methods for natural language processing. Marek also worked as a Supervision Tutor during this time.

Marek Rei has an extensive education background in computer science. Marek started their education at TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Informatics from 2005 to 2008. After completing their undergraduate studies, they pursued further education at the University of Cambridge.

At the University of Cambridge, Marek obtained a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Computer Science from 2008 to 2009. Marek continued their academic journey at the same university, completing their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science from 2009 to 2013.
