Isabela Cunha Navarro

Senior Scientist - Platform Development at Transine Therapeutics

Isabela Cunha Navarro has a wealth of experience in the scientific field. Isabela began their career in 2008 as an Undergraduate Research Trainee at FIOCRUZ - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, where they performed experiments in immunomodulation of Leishmania infection. Isabela then went on to pursue an MSc at Instituto do Coração - InCor HCFMUSP in 2012, where they conceptualized and performed experiments in a project determining the expression of microRNAs upon acute T. cruzi infection in mice. In 2016, they served as a Summer School Tutor at CamEO International Education, tutoring international students visiting the University of Cambridge for two weeks. From 2015 to 2019, they were a PhD Student at Wellcome/ CRUK Gurdon Institute, where they independently led a project on RNA modifications in C. elegans and initiated and managed scientific collaborations with industrial and academic groups. Most recently, from 2019 to 2022, they were a Senior Scientist - Platform Development at Tropic, where they were the technical lead of internal and international/collaborative R&D projects focusing on the implementation of the GEiGS® (Gene Editing-induced Gene Silencing) technology targeting a wide variety of pests and pathogens. In this role, they were also responsible for scientific strategy and troubleshooting, experimental plan and gantt chart design, project risk assessment, patent drafting, and data and science communication to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Isabela is currently employed at Transine Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist - Platform Development.

Isabela Cunha Navarro obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biological Sciences from Universidade Federal da Bahia between 2008 and 2011. Isabela then obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Immunology from Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo between 2012 and 2014. In 2014, they obtained an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) from Cambridge International Examinations. Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Genetics from the University of Cambridge between 2015 and 2019.
