Mark Smallwood has worked in the biotechnology field since 1994. Mark began their career at Acambis as a Research Scientist, where they worked on the development of peptide vaccines and the implementation of pilot scale processes for manufacture. In 1999, they moved to Actinova as a Development Scientist (Vaccines), where they worked on setting up CIS display technology and a novel carrier system for peptide vaccines. In 2004, they joined Genzyme as a Staff Scientist I, where they were the phage display point person for several cross-functional teams and was actively engaged in the isolation and characterization of antibodies from phage display libraries. In 2012, they joined the University of Cambridge as a Level Coordinator, where they were responsible for laboratory management and support of core facilities at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. Mark also had specific responsibilities with regard to Health & Safety matters, including radioisotope usage and biological & genetic modification safety. In 2022, they joined Transition Bio, Inc. as a Laboratory Operations Manager.
Mark Smallwood attended Bridlington School from 1981 to 1988 and then Aston University from 1988 to 1992, where they obtained a 2:1 in Applied and Human Biology.
