Hussein Affey possesses extensive experience in community health and outreach, currently serving as a Client Engagement Specialist at Asian Human Services, Inc. since February 2020. Previously, Hussein worked as a Community Outreach Worker at RefugeeOne from October 2012 to February 2020. Initial experience includes roles as a Social Services Career Trainee at the Illinois Department of Human Services and a Case Worker for the State of Illinois in 2008. Additionally, Hussein held managerial and supervisory positions at Heartland Alliance from 1995 to 2007. Hussein earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and Social Sciences from Northeastern Illinois University between 1987 and 1994.

Trellus is a nonprofit that exists to empower immigrants, refugees, and underserved communities in Chicago to thrive by removing barriers and providing supports that create opportunities for life. Headquartered in West Ridge—one of Chicago’s major refugee settlement neighborhoods—we serve individuals and families representing more than 50 nations and ethnicities. Our culturally responsive, comprehensive services include trauma-informed behavioral health counseling, case management, health education, ESL and technology classes, career training and job placement, and other supportive services. We also operate Passages Charter School, a pre-K to 8 charter school in the Andersonville neighborhood keenly focused on the needs and experience of refugee families.
