Donald Weaver

Donald Weaver has had a long and successful career in the medical and scientific fields. Donald began their career in 1989 as a Professor of Medicine (Neurology) and Chemistry and Head of the Division of Neurology at Queen's University. In 1994, they co-founded Neurochem Inc., a Canadian pharmaceutical company dedicated to discovery of drugs for dementia and other chronic neurological disorders. In 2001, they became the Irene MacDonald Sobey Endowed Chair in Curative Approaches to Alzheimer's Disease, Webster Endowed Chair in Medical Research, and Canada Research Chair, Tier 1 at Dalhousie University. In 2006, they founded Mindful Scientific, an early-stage medical device company focused on brain health. In 2007, they founded Treventis Corporation, a start-up biotechnology company focused on diseases associated with protein misfolding. In 2013, they began working as a Neurologist at Toronto Western Hospital and the University Health Network, Senior Scientist at the Krembil Research Institute, and Professor at the University of Toronto. Donald also became Director and Senior Scientist of the Krembil Research Institute at the University Health Network, University of Toronto. In 2005, they became Chief Medical Officer of DeNovaMed Inc., a biotech company dedicated to the development of novel antimicrobial agents.

Donald Weaver obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Organic Chemistry from Queen's University between 1981-1986. Between 1975-1981, they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Queen's University in Medicine. Donald also obtained a FRCP(C) from Dalhousie University, Faculty of Medicine in Clinical Neurology.
