Fergal O'Brien is an accomplished academic and researcher currently serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation, Professor of Bioengineering & Regenerative Medicine, Head of the Tissue Engineering Research Group, and Director of Research & Innovation at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland since May 2003. O'Brien has also held positions as Deputy Director for Research at the Advanced Materials and Bioengineering Research (AMBER) Centre and as an Adjunct Professor and Principal Investigator at Trinity College Dublin. O'Brien's academic journey includes a comprehensive education from Trinity College Dublin, culminating in a PhD in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering. Additionally, O'Brien contributed as a Subject Editor for the Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials and was a Fulbright Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
