Federico Alfano

Genotyping Team Lead - Molecular Biology - Banana, Coffee & Rice at Tropic Biosciences

Federico Alfano has a diverse work experience in the field of molecular biology and genetic engineering. Federico started their career at the Institute of Investigation in Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology (INGEBI), where they worked as a PhD student and later as a postdoctoral fellow. In these roles, they focused on cloning and producing recombinant proteins in bacteria and transgenic plants, as well as optimizing protein expression in tobacco chloroplasts. Federico also gained experience in genetic transformation of plants using biolistic and Agrobacterium tumefaciens methods.

In 2019, Alfano joined Tropic Biosciences, where they held the position of Research Scientist in the GEiGS Team. In this role, they worked on technology innovation and the development of gene editing and gene silencing tools. Federico was responsible for supporting the GEiGS design pipeline and validating experimental pipelines for external clients. Federico also conducted quality control of bioinformatics outputs.

Alfano then moved to the role of Genotyping Lead at Tropic Biosciences. Their work focused on genotyping banana, coffee, and rice plants for crop protection and novel fruit traits. Federico was involved in identifying non-transgenic edited plants and implementing artificial intelligence techniques.

Overall, Federico Alfano has a strong background in molecular biology, genetic engineering, and crop genotyping. Federico has experience in both academic and industry settings, contributing to the development of cutting-edge technologies and innovations.

Federico Alfano holds a PhD in Science and Technology from the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes, which they obtained from 2012 to 2016. Prior to that, they completed a Master's degree in Biotechnology with a specialization in Molecular Genetics at the same university from 2005 to 2010. In addition to their academic achievements, Federico also obtained certifications in English proficiency. Federico received a certificate in Proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge in an unspecified year, as well as a Certificate in Advanced English in 2003 and a First Certificate in English Examination in 2002, also from the University of Cambridge.
