Jess Jong has a diverse work experience starting from 2003. Jess worked as a Counselor at Concord Academy Summer Camp from June 2003 to August 2006. In 2006, they joined Middlebury College as a Mail Center Clerk and worked there until May 2009. Following that, they worked as an Account Executive at Ortus Group from August 2009 to May 2011. In 2008, they briefly worked as a Private English Tutor. From June 2011 to June 2012, they served as a Project Assistant at Courage and Compassion in the Holy Land. Jess then interned at Fairfax Advocates for Better Biking from December 2011 to June 2012. From June 2012 to April 2013, they worked as a Coordinator at ABI Research & Insights for The Advisory Board Company. Jess then transitioned to the role of Research Associate in Higher Education Research from April 2013 to January 2014. Subsequently, they were a Product Designer from February 2016 to August 2018, during which they created a web application and a student-facing application. Lastly, they joined Tropic from June 2022 as a Senior Product Designer.

Jess Jong attended Middlebury College from 2005 to 2009, where they graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. Their field of study at Middlebury College included English and Chinese. In addition to their undergraduate degree, Jess also attended the Middlebury College Chinese Language School, although the specific dates of their attendance are not provided. They also briefly attended Zhejiang University of Technology in the spring of 2008, although no further details are given about their coursework or degree pursued at this institution.
