Patrick LaPorta has a diverse work experience that includes roles in both the legal and banking fields. Patrick worked at Albany New York Law Firms from 1990 to 1999 as an attorney, where they provided counsel on asset protection and prepared various types of trusts and wills for estate planning purposes. In 1999, they transitioned into the banking industry and joined Trustco Bank. At Trustco Bank, they served as Vice President from 1999 to 2008, overseeing the tax area, settlement of estates, and termination of trusts. Patrick then became the Administrative Vice President and Chief Trust Officer in 2008, responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Financial Services Department, working with high net worth individuals, and reporting to the Board of Directors on investment performance and business development activities.

Patrick LaPorta attended Albany Law School from 1986 to 1989, where they obtained a Doctor of Law (JD) degree with a focus on Law. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Accounting at Siena College from 1982 to 1986. After completing their education, Patrick LaPorta obtained certification as a Member of the New York State Bar in January 1990.
