Douglas Harris serves as Chair and Director of the State of the Nation Project since January 2022 and holds multiple prestigious positions at Tulane University, including Chair of the Department of Economics, Professor of Economics, Director of the National Center for Research on Education Access and Choice (REACH), and Director of the Education Research Alliance for New Orleans. Harris also holds the Schlieder Foundation Chair in Public Education and was previously an Associate Professor of Economics. Additionally, Harris is a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution since 2016 and has held academic roles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Florida State University. Harris began an academic career as an Education Economist at the Economic Policy Institute and obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University.
