Mark W. Tipton

Mark W. Tipton is a trustee at Tulane University. Mark previously worked as an intern at The Phillips Collection, Howard University, and the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. Mark also interned at the Joan Theiraoka Healing Arts Gallery at the Smith Center for Healing and the Arts. Mark's work focuses on diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. Mark has conducted extensive research on DEAI policies and practices within cultural institutions and has assisted in the formulation of policies, practices, and workshops regarding DEAI for the museum's strategic plan. Mark has also appraised and cataloged African, African American, and European artworks in the Howard University Gallery of Art's permanent collection. In addition to their work in museums, Mark has also conducted general practices in object conservation, such as photo documentation, condition reporting, object handling, treatment, and preventative care.

Mark W. Tipton earned their Master of Arts in Museology/Museum Studies from The University of Manchester. Mark also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art Theirtory, Criticism and Conservation from Howard University.
