Rachel Hammer serves as the Associate Program Director for the Combined Medicine and Psychiatry Residency and the Clerkship Director for Psychiatry at Tulane University since June 2015. In addition, Rachel holds the position of Attending Physician at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System since August 2020. Prior experience includes working at the Mayo Clinic from June 2009 to 2015 in various roles, including Writer at the Bedside, where Rachel facilitated creative writing sessions and illness narratives, and as a Researcher in Biomedical Ethics with projects funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Rachel began a career in education as a high school teacher for Teach For America from 2007 to 2009. Rachel's academic credentials include a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, summa cum laude, also from Seattle Pacific University.
