Bence Szalai has diverse work experience in the fields of bioinformatics, computational biology, and medical physiology. Bence currently holds the role of principal bioinformatics scientist at Turbine since September 2021. Previously, they worked as an assistant professor at Semmelweis University from 2008 to 2021, where they conducted research on G-protein coupled receptors signaling and cancer drug sensitivity. Bence also served as an assistant lecturer and assistant research fellow during their tenure at Semmelweis University, contributing to computational biology projects and teaching medical physiology. In addition, Bence worked as a postdoc at Hungarian Academy of Sciences from 2018 to 2021, focusing on patient risk-stratification and treatment in prostate cancer. Bence was also a postdoc at RWTH Aachen University from 2017 to 2018, participating in the PrECISE EU project and analyzing perturbation signatures for pathway activities and drug mechanisms. Earlier in their career, Bence worked as a medical doctor at Pest Megyei Flór Ferenc Kórház from 2009 to 2016.
Bence Szalai completed their education at Semmelweis University, where they first obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in the field of Medicine, studying from 2002 to 2008. Following this, they pursued further education at the same university, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Molecular Medicine between 2008 and 2016. In addition to their formal education, Bence Szalai also obtained a certification in Neural Networks and Deep Learning from Coursera in September 2017.
