Mike Aparicio's work experience begins with their role as a Webmaster at Ensim Corporation from July 2000 to June 2001. In this role, they were responsible for developing and maintaining the company's website and intranet. Mike worked with multiple departments to produce HTML pages consistent with the company's marketing strategy.
From December 2005 to September 2011, Mike worked as a Senior Staff Associate and Webmaster at the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Mike redesigned the entire company website, developed a custom content management system, and improved navigation and organization of news and events.
In 2001, Mike started their freelance career as a Web Developer at SiteWise. Mike provided web design and development services to small businesses, specializing in responsive websites for desktop and mobile browsers. Mike also developed custom content management systems and WordPress themes for clients.
At Groupon, Mike worked from October 2011 to July 2020 as a Senior User Interface Engineer. Mike played a crucial role in developing Groupon's cross-platform design system, which included defining design tokens and creating CSS frameworks. Mike collaborated with design, engineering, and product teams while supporting designers and developers in implementing the frameworks.
Prior to their current role, Mike worked at Provi as a Senior Design Systems Engineer from July 2020 to December 2022. Mike led the development of Provi's design system, Fizz, from scratch. Mike created a CSS framework, design tokens, and an icon library to support the design system. Mike also collaborated with the design team on Fizz's Figma UI Kit.
Currently, Mike holds the position of Principal Design Systems Engineer at Turquoise Health, starting in January 2023.
Mike Aparicio attended Northeastern Illinois University from 2008 to 2010, where they studied Computer Science. In 2005 to 2006, they pursued an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts at Oakton Community College. From 2008 to 2012, they also completed training at the Second City Training Center in the field of Conservatory/Writing.
