LaStarsha McGarity is an experienced conservation professional currently serving as the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Objects Conservation at the National Gallery of Art since September 2019. Previous roles include Graduate Intern in Objects Conservation at the Saint Louis Art Museum and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, where significant conservation work was completed on collection items. At the Brooklyn Museum, McGarity conducted thorough documentation and treatment of objects in the museum's collection. Additional experience includes contributions to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, the Smithsonian Institution, and various internships focused on conservation techniques, condition analysis, and exhibition preparation. McGarity holds a PhD in Historic Preservation and Conservation from the University of Delaware, and a Master's in Art Conservation from Buffalo State University, complemented by a Bachelor’s in Fine/Studio Arts with a Chemistry minor from Texas Southern University.
