Co-Founder at Tutored by Teachers

Shaan Akbar has a long and varied career in the media and education industries. In 2020, they became Co-Founder of Tutored by Teachers, a public benefit company dedicated to improving outcomes for students and teachers and advancing equity in education. From 2017 to 2020, they held various roles at NBCUniversal, including Vice President and Director of Games Publishing. From 2013 to 2017, they worked at The Walt Disney Company as Manager of Strategy and Digital Distribution and Strategy Associate. In 2012, they were an MBA Associate at Driehaus Private Equity. In 2010, they founded Green Phoenix Ventures, LLC. From 2008 to 2006, they were a Senior Business Planner at Disney Theatrical Group and a Financial Analyst at Merrill Lynch & Co. In 2004, they were an Intern in the New Jersey Governor's Office, working as a press intern for James E. McGreevey and Richard J. Codey.

Shaan Akbar has an extensive educational background. Shaan received their BS in Finance and Political Science (double major) from Rutgers University in 2006. From 2010 to 2013, Shaan attended The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and obtained an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship. During this time, they also earned an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago - Committee on International Relations. Prior to this, Shaan attended West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North from 1998 to 2002.
