Nefise Akcakir

Nefise Akcakir is a Kinesiology student at the University of Waterloo, expected to graduate in 2026. Currently serving as a Research Apprentice, Nefise is conducting a project under Dr. John Mielke focused on measuring synaptic proteins in post-mortem rat brain tissue. As Campus Chairperson for Global Brigades, Inc. Canada, Nefise oversees multiple chapters, mentoring leaders and facilitating collaboration. Prior roles include Chapter President and various positions such as Tutor, Physical Therapist Aide, Medical Office Assistant, Event Coordinator, and Project Manager. Nefise has demonstrated a commitment to leadership, patient care, and academic research throughout a diverse set of experiences.
