Wil Black has a diverse range of work experience in various roles and industries. Wil was the Senior Software Developer at Twenty Ideas, Inc since April 2017. Prior to that, they owned Solalla Web Services LLC since January 2012, which offered web development and data analysis services. Wil also worked as a Technical Projects Manager at the California Ocean Science Trust from October 2016 to January 2017, where they managed feature development and represented the organization in sprint meetings. From March 2014 to September 2015, they worked as a Senior Developer + Systems Architect at Point 97, where they designed and deployed custom mobile applications for marine and ocean-related activities. As the Chief Technology Officer at TerraMar Innovations, Inc. from August 2013 to February 2014, they drove technical development and innovations for sustainable fisheries and food practices. Prior to that, they worked as the Vice President of R&D at Advanced Research Corporation from May 2010 to February 2014, leading a small agile team in designing and developing custom software systems for the fisheries industry. Additionally, they have experience as a Mathematics Instructor at Oregon Coast Community College, a Production Control Scheduler at Fox Racing Shox, and a Mathematics Tutor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Wil Black has an extensive education history in the fields of marine science, physical oceanography, and mathematics. Wil obtained their M.S. degree in Marine Science with a specialization in Physical Oceanography from UC Santa Barbara, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Prior to that, they earned their M.A. degree in Mathematics from UC Santa Barbara, attending the institution from 2001 to 2003. Their undergraduate studies were completed at Oregon State University, where they obtained a B.A. degree in Mathematics from 1999 to 2001.
In addition to their academic achievements, Wil Black has also obtained a certification as an AWS Certified Developer - Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in November 2022.
