Chief Of School Leadership at Tyler ISD

Johnita Ward, Ed.D has a strong career in education leadership. Johnita started their professional journey as an Assistant Principal at Onslow County Schools in 2004, where they remained until 2008. Johnita then joined Tyler ISD as an Assistant Principal in 2008, before moving on to become a Principal at Crockett ISD in 2009. Johnita successfully held this position for five years until 2014. In the same year, Dr. Ward rejoined Tyler ISD as the Director of Research and Accountability. Their dedication and expertise led to their promotion as the Executive Director of Schools in 2015. Shortly after, they were appointed as the Chief of School Leadership at Tyler ISD. Dr. Johnita Ward's extensive experience in various leadership roles has undoubtedly shaped their into a knowledgeable and competent education professional.

Johnita Ward, Ed.D obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from Prairie View A&M University from 1997 to 2000. Johnita then pursued a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix from 2003 to 2005. Later, they completed a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational, Instructional, and Curriculum Supervision-Adult Education from the University of Phoenix from 2007 to 2008. Finally, from 2017 to 2021, they earned their Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from the University of Phoenix.
