Lead System Engineer at U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Thomas Schaefer has over 13 years of work experience in various engineering roles. Thomas started their career at Ciber in 2009 as a Technician Assistant Intern, where they focused on communication with customers and responding to reported issues. In 2011, they joined TASC, Inc. as a Technician Assistant Intern, where they developed network systems for different customers and installed programs into vendor's products. From 2013 to 2022, they worked at Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic as a Mechanical Engineer, providing mechanical and system engineering support for multiple projects in the Department of Navy Command. Thomas analyzed and developed new designs, created Technical Data Packages, and ensured compliance with ASME Y standards. Currently, Schaefer is employed as a Lead System Engineer at U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Thomas Schaefer completed their Master of Science in Project Management at The Citadel from 2018 to 2020. Prior to that, they obtained their Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The Citadel in 2017-2018. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech (2010-2013) and another Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Central Florida (2008-2009). In terms of additional certifications, Thomas Schaefer has obtained the Associated System Engineering Professional certification from INCOSE in 2015 and Level 2- DAWIA SPRDE- SYSTEM ENGINEERING certification from Defense Acquisition University in 2014. Thomas also earned Level 1- DAWIA SPRDE-SYSTEM ENGINEERING certification from Defense Acquisition University in June 2013, and they are a CSWA-Certified SolidWorks Associate.
