U.S. SUGAR
Tesfa Birru has extensive work experience in the sugar industry, with a focus on production management and plant operations. Tesfa started their career at Metahara Sugar Factory in 2000, where they served as the Ethanol plant Processing Section Head, Shift Coordinator, and Supervisor. In this role, they managed the installation and commissioning of a 50,000 Liter per day Ethanol plant and assisted the production manager in the manufacturing of plantation white sugar.
In 2011, Tesfa Birru joined Tendaho Sugar Factory as the Production Division Manager. During their tenure, they were responsible for managing a green field project worth $450 million. Tesfa successfully oversaw the installation and commissioning of the project and played a key role in selecting, recruiting, and training engineers and operating staff. Tesfa also participated in weekly project progress meetings with Indian project managers.
Most recently, Tesfa Birru worked at U.S. Sugar Corp as an Operations Shift Manager. Their role also included a previous position as a Process Engineer. Further details about these roles are not provided.
Tesfa Birru attended Robe Dedea High School from 1992 to 1993, where they obtained a certificate in Natural Sciences. From 1994 to 2000, they furthered their education at Addis Ababa University, Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

U.S. Sugar is one of the nation’s largest fully integrated producers of sugar cane, one of Florida’s major producers of orange juice products, and a regional short line railroad operator. Headquartered in Clewiston, Florida the company farms more than 180,000 acres in Hendry, Glades, and Palm Beach counties and employs approximately 1,700 people including many high-skilled/wage jobs in automated environments. Produces 650,000 - 700,000 tons of cane sugar a year, providing nearly 8% of the nation’s sugar production.
