Charles Onu

Charles Onu started their work experience as a Software and Networking Intern at Digital Bridge Institute in 2010. Charles then worked as a Software Developer at Synchrony Limited for a few months before transitioning to CypherCrescent Limited, where they served as a Software Engineer specializing in C# and .NET software development for the energy industry. In 2015, Charles became a Jeanne Sauvé Fellow, participating in the Jeanne Sauve Public Leadership Program and working with Concordia University and McGill University. In 2016, they worked as a Health Informatics Research Engineer at St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, leveraging machine learning to develop a recommender system and a mobile application for breast cancer surgery patients. Concurrently, they also worked as a Machine Learning Researcher at McGill University. In 2018, Charles joined Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute as a Machine Learning Researcher. Currently, they are the Co-founder and CEO of Ubenwa Health, a company focused on developing sound-based medical diagnostic software using signal processing and machine learning. In addition to their professional roles, Charles is a member of C100, an organization that supports Canadian entrepreneurs.

Charles Onu began their education at the Federal University of Technology Owerri Nigeria, where they earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering. Charles then went on to pursue a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science with a specialization in Machine Learning at McGill University, completing their studies in 2018. Following this, Charles Onu continued their academic journey at McGill University, where they are currently working towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science, specifically focused on Machine Learning.

In addition to their formal education, Charles Onu has obtained several certifications. In 2013, they completed a course on Machine Learning through Coursera. Charles also holds certifications in R programming, obtained in 2015 through Coursera Verified Certificates, as well as certifications in "The Data Scientist's Toolbox" from Coursera Course Certificates and Coursera Verified Certificates. In 2013, Charles Onu completed a course on "Grow to Greatness: Smart Growth for Private Businesses, Part I" from Coursera.
