Roqua Montez IV currently serves as the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor of Communications and Public Affairs at the University of California, Berkeley, a position held since September 2023. Prior to this, Montez worked at the University of California Office of the President as the Director of Media Relations and Press Secretary from December 2022 to September 2023. From May 2015 to December 2022, Montez was the Executive Director of Communications and Media Relations at the University of California, Berkeley. Earlier roles include Editor in Chief of News & Information at HP, Director of Public Relations at The Tech Museum of Innovation, and Director of Communications at Oakland Unified School District. Montez also worked as a Public Engagement Liaison for San Francisco Unified School District, held editorial roles at The San Jose Mercury News and New Haven Register, and served as a Rewrite Editor at USA TODAY. Montez earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from Fordham University.
