Susan C. Chamberlin

Susan C. Chamberlin is the co-founder and director of the Chamberlin Family Foundation, which works to assure a quality education for every child in the K-12 system in West Contra Costa County and challenged schools in Hawaii. She also leads Education Matters, which focuses on advocacy and political action for excellent K-12 education. After twenty years of practicing architecture, she altered her career path and spent six years with the Oakland Redevelopment Agency managing people and projects. Subsequently, she headed the design/build project for the California State Office Building in Oakland.

Ms. Chamberlin developed her interest in nonprofit work as a volunteer and subsequently first woman commodore of the American Canoe Association. She also served on the board of the International Canoe Federation, overseeing sports competitions, including the Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996. She has served as the president of the Richmond Art Center and as a board member and treasurer of the Oakland Museum of California. She is a governor of the Urban Land Institute and was a lecturer at the Haas School of Business for five years.

Ms. Chamberlin and her husband, Steve, a retired real estate developer, have supported UC Berkeley in a variety of ways at the Haas School, the School of Public Health, Faculty Club, renovation of Moffitt Library, Big Give, Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive, and Biology Scholars program. They are Builders of Berkeley and received recognition from the Haas School as Business Leaders of the Year in 2016. Ms. Chamberlin serves on the advisory board of the Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership at the Haas School. She was Chairman of the UC Berkeley Foundation Board of Trustees (2017–19).

Ms. Chamberlin received a B.Arch degree from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. She and her husband live in Point Richmond, California.
