Amita Misra

Adjunct Professor at UC Santa Cruz

Amita Misra is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in the fields of natural language processing and artificial intelligence. Currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Amita teaches a course on Generative AI within the UCSC NLP Program. At Amazon, Amita leads a cross-functional team as the Applied Science Head for Generative AI and MultiModal Search, focusing on the development of scalable machine learning systems for multilingual question-answering tasks. Previously, Amita was the NLP Lead Scientist at IBM Watson, where innovative NLP algorithms were developed for the NLU cloud service. Amita began an academic career as a Graduate Research Scholar at UC Santa Cruz, following earlier roles as a Research Intern at IBM Almaden Research Center and Nissan Research Center. Amita has an impressive academic background, holding both a Ph.D. and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an additional Master's degree from Harcourt Butler Technological Institute in India.
