Nick de Pennington has a diverse work experience in the healthcare and technology industry. Nick founded and served as CEO of Ufonia, a company that provides voice-based automation for clinical care pathways. Nick was also a Clinical Entrepreneur in the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme and an Innovation Lead at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Additionally, they co-founded and chaired TheHill, a digital health innovation community based at Oxford University Hospitals. Nick worked as a Clinical Lead for the Thames Valley and Surrey Care Records Partnership. Nick also held roles as a Senior Associate Tutor at the University of Oxford, where they co-ordinated a module on Healthcare Innovation and Technology, and as a Research Fellow and Neurosurgery Specialist Registrar at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Earlier in their career, they gained experience in house jobs and basic surgical training within the NHS.

Nick de Pennington completed their education in a chronological order. Nick first attended the University of Cambridge from 1996 to 1999, where they obtained a degree in Medical Science Tripos (MA). Subsequently, from 1999 to 2002, they attended the University of Oxford and earned a degree in Clinical Medicine (BM BCh). Returning to their education in 2019, they pursued an Executive MBA from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, which they completed in 2020. In 2017, they also attended the Value Based Healthcare Intensive Seminar at the Harvard Business School Executive Education. In addition to their formal education, they hold several certifications, including the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, obtained in August 2020. Nick also obtained the Nye Bevan Programme from the NHS Leadership Academy in 2018, Specialist Registration (Neurosurgery) from the General Medical Council in 2015, and became a Fellow (FRCS Neuro.Surg) from The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2013.
