Samuel Edem-Maitum has extensive work experience in the banking industry. Samuel began their career at Orient Bank Limited in 2004 as a Risk Manager, where they were responsible for compliance monitoring, analyzing data for risk management, and reporting to the Board and management. Samuel then joined Barclays Bank Uganda Limited in 2008, initially as a Manager Business Support and later as the Ag. Head of Business Support and Corporate Recoveries. In these roles, they focused on improving the risk profile of the Corporate Portfolio, enhancing income from distressed customers, and resolving issues.
Samuel also worked at Barclays Bank Mozambique in 2014 as a Business Support and Recoveries Consultant, where they collaborated with the country team on case management and strategy, provided training on Watchlist awareness, and promoted synergy between Finance, Legal, and the team. Samuel returned to Barclays Bank Uganda in 2016 as the Head of Operational Risk, spearheading the embedding of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and advising the business on operational risk management.
In 2019, Samuel joined Stanbic Bank Uganda as the Head of Operational Risk and later moved on to Uganda Development Bank as the Director of Credit.
Samuel Edem-Maitum has a diverse education history. Samuel obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Economics from Makerere University in the years 1998 to 2001. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc.) degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Greenwich from 2002 to 2003.
In 2013, Samuel attended the CEO Apprenticeship Program at Strathmore Business School & CEO Summit Uganda. This program provided him with valuable knowledge and experience in leadership and entrepreneurship.
Continuing their educational journey, Samuel completed The Effective Director Program at Strathmore Business School (SBS) in 2017. Although the field of study for this program is not specified, it emphasized the development of effective directorial skills.
To enhance their professional qualifications, Samuel has also obtained additional certifications. In June 2021, they received a Certificate in Project Finance from Corporate Support Group LTD. In March 2021, they completed the Professional Certificate in Development Finance from the Association of African Development Finance Institutions.
Overall, Samuel Edem-Maitum has a strong educational background in economics, finance, and leadership, which has been further reinforced through various certifications and programs.
