Stuart Wainwright Obe

Stuart Wainwright OBE currently serves as Chief Executive at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) since June 2023. Previously, Stuart held the position of Director at the Government Office for Science from December 2019 to June 2023, and served as Deputy Director Resilience at the Cabinet Office from July 2015 to December 2019. In the role with Defra, UK Government, Stuart contributed as Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser from January 2013 to July 2015, overseeing a £140 million science investment aimed at supporting effective policies. Earlier positions include Assistant Director in Civil Contingencies at the Cabinet Office, where Stuart coordinated the UK’s emergency response to significant incidents, and various strategy and policy roles at Defra between January 2006 and January 2011.
