J. Scott Roth, MD, currently serves as the Division Chief of General, Endocrine and Metabolic Surgery and Chief of Surgery at UK Good Samaritan Hospital since July 2013, and is a Professor of Surgery with expertise in complex laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery and complicated hernia repair. As the Director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, a role held since October 2008, Roth also oversees a fellowship training program and directs the Center for Advanced Training and Simulation. Roth holds the title of Richard W. Schwartz Commonwealth Professor in Physician Leadership and has previously served as Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of Kentucky while program director for the Surgery Residency at the University of Maryland from January 2004 to August 2008. Education includes a Doctor of Medicine from Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from William & Mary. Research interests focus on enhancing hernia repair outcomes through MMP inhibition.
