Nathan also experimented with various touch control schemes and implemented file I/O for logging data.

Prior to their role at the university, Nathan worked as a Nanomedicine Research Assistant at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research from September 2015 to April 2016. Their main task was to optimize the Cellax synthesis process for pre-clinical to clinical phase transition. Nathan conducted a formulation stability study and performed QA/QC analysis to optimize critical process parameters.

In 2015, Nathan also worked as a Research Assistant at the Maheshwari Research Lab, where they were responsible for the engineering design of a Gold Nanoparticle chain synthesis process. This chain served as the base for a Single Electron Transistor glucose nanosensor.

Before that, Nathan worked at the Rempel Research Lab in 2014 as a Research Assistant, focusing on the analysis of hydrogenation catalysis in nitrile rubbers. Nathan also undertook the task of organizing and overhauling the safety, documentation, and storage of a large chemical inventory.

Nathan Chan completed their high school education at St George's Highschool from 2008 to 2013, where they majored in STEM. Following that, they pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Nanotechnology Engineering at the University of Waterloo from 2013 to 2018.
