John Pinion is currently the EVP, Translational Sciences & Chief Quality Operations Officer at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Quality Operations Officer, EVP Analytical Sciences and Research at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. from July 2015 to September 2017. In this role, they were responsible for leading the development of the Global Clinical and Commercial Quality and Compliance organization, as well as the Pre-Clinical and Clinical Bioanalytic development capabilities. John was also engaged in reviewing, analyzing and decision making across commercial filing & launch readiness, translational research programs & pipeline, clinical development & clinical portfolio review, technical operations planning & execution, business development activities & diligence, corporate compliance policy & activities, and IP review & strategy.

John Pinion received their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University. John has also received certification from the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Education in Finance and Accounting for the Non-financial Executive and Mergers and Acquisitions, Financing Innovation. In addition, they have received certification from HSM in Special Management Program, Execution in Action with Larry Bossidy.

They are on a team with Dennis Huang - EVP, Chief Technical Operations Officer, Ernie Meyer - EVP, Chief Human Resources Officer, and Thomas Kassberg - EVP, Chief Business Officer. John Pinion reports to Emil D. Kakkis, CEO & President.
