Brian Smith, CFA, serves as the Associate Vice President for Finance at the University of Michigan since July 2019, with an additional role as the Interim Executive Vice President for Business and Finance/Chief Financial Officer. Prior to this, Brian held various positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from July 2004 to June 2019, including Treasurer and Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance. Brian's earlier career at Wachovia Bank spanned commercial banking, underwriting, risk management, and branch management from April 1992 to June 2004. Brian earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed the Advanced Management Program at The Wharton School.
