Michael Purcell has extensive experience in both military and academic settings, beginning with service in the US Navy as a Combat Systems Officer on the USS GERMANTOWN from June 2006 to June 2008. Subsequent roles included Reactor Mechanical Division Officer on the USS JOHN C STENNIS and Assistant Officer in Charge of Boat Detachment Bravo, demonstrating leadership and technical expertise in naval operations and nuclear propulsion. Currently, Michael serves as Professional Staff at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and works as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, focusing on optics and imaging methods in body tissue. Michael holds a BS in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Utah, as well as a PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Michigan, and achieved top honors at the Naval Nuclear Power School.
