Rick Boland

C. Richard (Rick) Boland, MD, AGAF, is a Professor of Medicine at the UCSD School of Medicine, where they continue to contribute to the field of colon cancer research. Originating from upstate New York, they obtained a BA from Notre Dame and an MD from Yale Medical School. With a career-long focus on the genetic causes of colon cancer and familial cancer syndromes, Rick has published over 430 papers and mentored 101 fellows and students, several of whom have advanced to prominent leadership roles. They have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the CGA in 2015 and the AGA Friedenwald Medal. Dr. Boland has maintained continuous NIH funding since 1979 and is actively involved in mentoring programs, including the AGA Forward Program.
