Associate Dean For Undergraduate Education

Timothy McKay serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Physics, Astronomy, and Education at the University of Michigan since September 1995. McKay's research primarily focuses on astrophysics, utilizing the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and Dark Energy Survey to investigate cosmic structure and the universe's expansion history. As the Founder and Faculty Director of the Digital Innovation Greenhouse, McKay fosters educational technology initiatives. Additionally, McKay leads the REBUILD project to enhance science and math education at Michigan and has directed the LSA Honors Program, developing a core curriculum for first-year Honors students. McKay also chairs the Learning Analytics Task Force aimed at improving student success through effective use of learning analytics. Prior experience includes a Lederman Fellowship at Fermilab, where McKay contributed to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. McKay holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Chicago and a BS in Physics from Temple University.
