Peter Deupmann

Legal Officer at UN Biodiversity

Peter Deupmann has extensive experience in legal affairs, particularly in biosafety and international environmental law. Since September 2015, Peter has served as a Legal Officer at the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, focusing on legal matters related to biosafety. Prior to this role, Peter worked at FAO from March 2007 to August 2015, where responsibilities included supervising legislative projects in developing countries, providing legal advice on international and environmental law, and representing FAO in intergovernmental meetings. Peter also held positions as a Legal Specialist at FAO and Bioversity International, conducting legal research and supporting various legal initiatives. Peter holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Marine and Environmental Law from the University of Cape Town and additional degrees in Dutch Law and German Language and Literature from the University of Amsterdam.
