Sven Walter

Sven Walter is an experienced professional in forest products and land management, currently serving as Team Leader for Forest Products and Statistics at FAO since June 2019. In this role, Sven enhances data related to wood and non-wood forest products, promoting their contribution to Sustainable Development Goals. Sven also holds the position of Head of the GM Rome Liaison Office for the UNCCD, coordinating initiatives aimed at combating desertification and land degradation across over 115 countries. With a rich background that includes various roles at FAO, such as Technical Advisor and Programme Officer, and previous consulting positions in environmental management and forestry, Sven has a deep understanding of sustainable land and forest management, policy recommendations, and international collaboration. Sven earned a Master of Science in Geography from Justus Liebig University Giessen in 1996.
