Juliana Almeida

Juliana Almeida is an experienced international environment law specialist currently serving in the UN Environment Programme since February 2023. Prior to this role, Juliana worked as an accredited parliamentary assistant at the European Parliament, focusing on environment and transport topics from July 2021 to January 2023. Juliana's background includes a position as a junior attaché at the Portuguese Permanent Representation to the European Union, where responsibilities involved preparation for the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU and advising on climate, access to justice, and biodiversity issues. Further experience includes a political diplomacy trainee position at the Embassy and Mission of Portugal to international organizations in Vienna, where Juliana engaged in multilateral work with the United Nations on various global issues. Juliana began a career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal with several internships and collaboration roles, enhancing expertise in international and environmental law. Juliana holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International and European Law and a postgraduate diploma in Environmental Law.
