Mathias Spaliviero is a seasoned professional in human settlements and environmental management, currently serving as the Senior Human Settlements Officer and West Africa Portfolio Manager at UN-Habitat since October 2002. With previous roles including Senior Human Settlements Officer and DRR, climate change, and resilience focal point for the Regional Office for Africa, Spaliviero has extensive experience overseeing the implementation of multiple country programs across Africa, managing a portfolio exceeding 35 million USD. Prior to UN-Habitat, Spaliviero worked as a Research Assistant and Lecturer in the Water Resources Department at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation of the University of Twente. Academic qualifications include a Doctor of Science in Geography from Ghent University, a Master’s degree in Water Resources and Environmental Management from ITC, and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Università Ca' Foscari Venezia.
